because of the microwave fire.

A few days ago, I had shared with you
the adventures of the party van…well, the
*beginnings* of those adventures.
To refresh your memory, the party van

To set the stage….we had all attended a rather
yummy buffet and decided to invest in a party
bus ride home!

Can you believe…I never saw one
in the wild before?
And I asked one of my colleagues….
Jeepers colleague (I like the word ‘jeepers’ alot),
how can you hang coats on that?
As you can tell, my worldliness surpasses
any Hugh Hefner around oh yes oh yes!
Needless to say, the ride back was funnier than
watching a porcupine figure skate across
a bunch of newly inflated balloon…
we all have pictures of that time
(some of them even posted to our wall
from back in August).
Good times, good times!
Anywhos! I forgot if that was the last
day or not, but I do vividly remember
going to sleep that evening and thinking
about the flight home – it would be calm,
enjoyable, restful, and a grand start to
my enhanced business.
And that was what happened.
Until 4:13am the next morning.
When the most unexpected disaster
befell upon me.
It makes climbing Mt. Everest with toothpick
skiis seem like a walk in the park!
I sure hope you’ll read it on a full stomach –
the sheer horror of it will truly impact your
mood!

Evenin’!
Do forgive my lack of perkiness.
This morning, I was sitting at my desk in my office
and heard a snap! crackle! pop and looked back
to see my microwave on fire.

A few days ago, I had shared with you
the adventures of the party van…well, the
*beginnings* of those adventures.
To refresh your memory, the party van

going to sleep that evening and thinking
about the flight home – it would be calm,
enjoyable, restful, and a grand start to
my enhanced business.
And that was what happened.
Until 4:13am the next morning.
When the most unexpected disaster
befell upon me.
It makes climbing Mt. Everest with toothpick
skiis seem like a walk in the park!

Yesterday, I had started regaling you

collapsed was eye-opening in many ways….
Especially…the reality TV bus ride back from

both decided that after walking 372 miles
in the 106 heat, a bus ride would be quite
dandy) in one of those mini bus thingees.
And one of the pickups was a man
who faked the need of a wheelchair.
A rather….angry man.
Now, Judy and I were sitting about 15 feet from
the front door. And to take in a wheelchair, the
bus has to be lowered, seats had to be moved,
etc.etc.etc.
Apparently, this guy does this quite
often to this particular bus driver. So…the
bus driver called the office.
And heated words were exchanged, because the
bus driver refused to move the bus.
Which kinda sorta put everyone else on
it…at a standstill.
Enter the nice lady and her scrappy boyfriend.
Nice lady told the guy that hey! We
have to get home too!
Guy decided to take a swing at nice lady.
Nice Lady boyfriend *immediately* leaped into action,
deftly grabbed guy by throat, held him against
the wall.
Marketing conferences…gotta love ’em!
To make a long story short, guy finally
gets off of bus with wheelchair and throws
a beer bottle against the window.
And Judy and I finally get back to the hotel.
WHEW!

Yesterday, I had started regaling you

Anywhos, that Vegas trip before my ankle
collapsed was eye-opening in many ways….
Especially…the reality TV bus ride back from
a buffet.
I was sitting with the intrepid Judy K (we
both decided that after walking 372 miles
in the 106 heat, a bus ride would be quite
dandy) in one of those mini bus thingees.
And one of the pickups was a man
who faked the need of a wheelchair.
A rather….angry man.
Now, Judy and I were sitting about 15 feet from
the front door. And to take in a wheelchair, the
bus has to be lowered, seats had to be moved,
etc.etc.etc.
Apparently, this guy does this quite
often to this particular bus driver. So…the
bus driver called the office.
And heated words were exchanged, because the
bus driver refused to move the bus.
Which kinda sorta put everyone else on
it…at a standstill.
Enter the nice lady and her scrappy boyfriend.
Nice lady told the guy that hey! We
have to get home too!
Guy decided to take a swing at nice lady.
Nice Lady boyfriend *immediately* leaped into action,
deftly grabbed guy by throat, held him against
the wall.
Marketing conferences…gotta love ’em!
To make a long story short, guy finally
gets off of bus with wheelchair and throws
a beer bottle against the window.
And Judy and I finally get back to the hotel.
WHEW!

Yesterday, I had started regaling you

Anywhos, that Vegas trip before my ankle
collapsed was eye-opening in many ways….

dandy) in one of those mini bus thingees.
And one of the pickups was a man
who faked the need of a wheelchair.
A rather….angry man.
Now, Judy and I were sitting about 15 feet from
the front door. And to take in a wheelchair, the
bus has to be lowered, seats had to be moved,
etc.etc.etc.
Apparently, this guy does this quite
often to this particular bus driver. So…the
bus driver called the office.
And heated words were exchanged, because the
bus driver refused to move the bus.
Which kinda sorta put everyone else on
it…at a standstill.
Enter the nice lady and her scrappy boyfriend.
Nice lady told the guy that hey! We
have to get home too!
Guy decided to take a swing at nice lady.
Nice Lady boyfriend *immediately* leaped into action,
deftly grabbed guy by throat, held him against
the wall.
Marketing conferences…gotta love ’em!
To make a long story short, guy finally
gets off of bus with wheelchair and throws
a beer bottle against the window.
And Judy and I finally get back to the hotel.
WHEW!

As you might be aware, back in August, I
was invited by Dennis Becker to speak at his
wonderful Earn 1K a Day event.
Now, this was BEFORE my ankle was fused…
(heck, it was BEFORE my ankle collapsed)….
this was when I just knew that Dennis and his
E1KaDay forum was a fantastic resource for
serious marketers.
So! Imagine the following.
There I was in Vegas. Me, calm, cool,
Barbara Ling. The temperature was 105
degrees or so; so hot the statues outside
had sweat stains in their armpits!
So of course I decided to stay inside and
sit in on the initial mastermind. 🙂
There, I met bunches of stellar marketers….
and learned about what my peers and colleagues

I’ll never forget the day 3 years ago.
My husband was in China, I was home with my
passel of kids, mooses, twitter budgies and……
(sitting down?)
And the guest room toilet seat kinda sorta…
disintegrated.
Now, any parent with kids knows that this
is a very common household occurrence….
BUT normally it happens when non-home-
improvement-challenged peoples are around!
ie, I was TOTALLY clueless on how to fix
this….but that didn’t stop me!
Oh no, oh no, I simply decided to replace the
seat except…..
The seat apparently was build during the Dark
Ages and had the consistency of just-set
concrete. Ie, the 2 screw thingees…I couldn’t
remove!
Ho ho, chortled I, I will apply my Sherlockian
ways of fixing things….
And conjured up a hacksaw and went to work
with all the dandy enthusiasm of a Nascar
racecar powered by espresso.
3 hours later my toilet seat was slain,
I deftly replaced everything required,
and a heavenly chorus of angels posted
to Facebook and life was delightful indeed!
However, it’s pretty obvious that MOST
people when faced with a plumbing issue…..
Actually call a plumber!

crossed my desk….so today you get one
extra amusing story!
As you might be aware, back in August, I
was invited by Dennis Becker to speak at his
wonderful Earn 1K a Day event.
Now, this was BEFORE my ankle was fused…
(heck, it was BEFORE my ankle collapsed)….
this was when I just knew that Dennis and his
E1KaDay forum was a fantastic resource for
serious marketers.
So! Imagine the following.
There I was in Vegas. Me, calm, cool,
Barbara Ling. The temperature was 105
degrees or so; so hot the statues outside
had sweat stains in their armpits!
So of course I decided to stay inside and
sit in on the initial mastermind. 🙂
There, I met bunches of stellar marketers….
and learned about what my peers and colleagues
were producing …

[ OFFLINE ] The Killer Toilet, the Rusty Hacksaw, and your future customer – A Ling Horror Story
I’ll never forget the day 3 years ago.
My husband was in China, I was home with my
passel of kids, mooses, twitter budgies and……
(sitting down?)
And the guest room toilet seat kinda sorta…
disintegrated.
Now, any parent with kids knows that this
is a very common household occurrence….
BUT normally it happens when non-home-
improvement-challenged peoples are around!
ie, I was TOTALLY clueless on how to fix
this….but that didn’t stop me!
Oh no, oh no, I simply decided to replace the
seat except…..
The seat apparently was build during the Dark
Ages and had the consistency of just-set
concrete. Ie, the 2 screw thingees…I couldn’t
remove!
Ho ho, chortled I, I will apply my Sherlockian
ways of fixing things….
And conjured up a hacksaw and went to work
with all the dandy enthusiasm of a Nascar
racecar powered by espresso.
3 hours later my toilet seat was slain,
I deftly replaced everything required,
and a heavenly chorus of angels posted
to Facebook and life was delightful indeed!
However, it’s pretty obvious that MOST
people when faced with a plumbing issue…..
Actually call a plumber!
Wouldn’t it be grand if they called the plumber
who is using YOUR services?

One of the highlights of my 2012 has been meeting and getting to know Barbara Ling.
We had met earlier in the year, but got to know each other better
when she agreed to speak at the Earn1KaDay seminar in August. By sheer
luck and coincidence we ended up on the same flight to Las Vegas and
back, and got to know each other.
Her presentation was amazing, but what happened later was truly inspirational.
We planned to meet in the lobby to share a cab back to the airport and
she was waiting for me there. While I settled up at the front desk, she
calmly announced that her ankle had collapsed.
I only truly learned of the pain she must have been in later, but
helped her get into the cab and through the airport. She would only
allow me to carry her laptop while she lugged a backpack and luggage.
For such a relatively small person, she was incredibly strong to have
managed without breaking down and asking for a wheelchair.
But in getting to know Barb this year (we chat frequently on
Skype), it’s her mental fortitude and focus that’s the most amazing part
of her personality. If she says something’s going to happen, it happens.
And here’s the thing. I’ve seen what she’s accomplished while
she’s still recovering from surgery, while she’s been dealing with the
loss of her mother and the months leading up to that, while she cares
for 4 children, along with her several pets, and still she manages to
build products and email relationships.
Through it all I’ve watched her maintain a totally
positive attitude, where a lesser mortal would have broken down and took
time off for self pity.
And any time I need to chat, she always has time to spare.
My goodness, where does she get all this energy? It can’t just be the coffee.
What will 2013 bring when she gets back onto both feet (literally), and can work at 100% efficiency? I’ll be watching to see.
I know Barb about as well as any other marketer now, and
if I were asked to recommend one person to follow, she would be the one.
She’s truly a superwoman in my eyes.
